PostSubject: SOLVED Is it possible to make an item have a particle effect on it?   Sun Jul 10, 2016 1:33 am

Yo, I've just got a question.

So I'm trying to make a torch item. I have a mesh that is the stick thing, and I want to make the fire a fire particle at the end of the stick.
But I'm not sure how to do this or if it's even possible.

I know that could just make a plane for the fire on the model and give the material for the torch an animated texture, but that's not exactly desirable.

Also, I'd like the fire to be part of the item. Aka, the fire isn't just a shard that you equip for the effect.

I know that this exists, but I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for.

Hi there!

You can add a particle to an item in the items file.

fireshard;Fire Shard;Main;0;0;0;Flameaura;0 0 0;1

Here's the original Fire Shard - where it says Flameaura? That's the particle. You can attach any existing particle to an item the same way.

The 3 0's after it determine the position the particle takes so you'll need to change those numbers to get the fire particle where you want it. You may need to use negative numbers and go -2 etc. You'll also need to take the ;1 away to get it to follow the item or it'll stay in the one spot and not be truly attached to the item.

Turns out I ran into a bit of a problem.

No matter how much I change the position numbers of the particle, it refuses to move.
Through testing, it appears, but it always stays in the same position.

I've removed the ;1 at the end but it won't move.

^This is what's in my items.cfg
The Flame particle is stated earlier and it's in the files as a particle.

Sorry for stating that this was fixed when it wasn't aaa

Ah yes, I meant don't have anything at the end after the numbers. Take away the ;0 and save it.

After a couple bits of tweaking, I got it to work.

Removing the ;0 didn't do anything, so I just made a new particle specifically for this item, and positioned the emitter in the .particle file.

Wasn't the most time-efficient way to do it, but it worked.

So, Solved! Thanks Obey, for the help though! Got me thinking of possibilities I can do with this.
