PostSubject: Unfair Banning?   Mon Aug 10, 2015 4:59 am

First topic message reminder :

Curious, what are all of your opinions on what is grounds to ban someone and what isn't?

Is it ok to ban for entirely personal reasons offsite, or really small things such as disagreeing with the admin?

Is it ok to ban people for posting non-offensive anime images/discussion, even if it's joking and not entirely serious?(i.e. "my favorite anime is shrek ;D")

What do you guys think are definitely not ok to ban for/are perfectly fine to ban for? And what do you think should be a policy when it comes to treatment of members by staff? Feel free to give any thoughts or opinions.

Ye, hacking should be a perma-ban offense, or at least a very long one. Personally I don't think any first ban should be permanent unless it's something major like that or spamming porn or something.

And I think jokes are perfectly ok as long as they're not offensive, racist, etc. Like... jokingly calling someone a "nerd"(i do it all the time for fun, like "u nurd" or whatever) is ok, as well as saying shrek is an anime in jest or something. Long as it's not offensive, it shouldn't be bannable.

-All the Staff's actions must be impartial.
In other words, the Administrator's judgment should not look affected by favoritism, personal preferences or external situations that do not involve the actual site were the members are staying.

Doing the contrary is simply telling you're dealing with an Administrator user that's banning for their own reasons instead using the ban as a tool to making rules be abide by the members.

-If the rules don't state that you can't do that, there should be no reason to ban someone.
Again, all this because my previous point.
//Note: Some communities may be specific with having anything against "X" kind of content, some not.

-A ban must stand to only occur in extreme situations. It must also has a good, rational reason that gives context about it.
An Administrator should only ban as last resource, under the correct cause and with proper actions. This also includes being VERY confidential, discreet and decent.

Publically sharing the reason of why you banned "A" when user "B" and else are not involved and were not witnesses about the situation is a no-no for an Staff.
Because:
-You can't consider the words of someone a fact, unless you've seen it or are in the experience.
-Bans that involve someone should not be discussed with members. That just brings rumors and issues for the member banned and the Staff member.

There SHOULD be a policy that states a code of conduct for the Staff towards the community. This means to regulating their behavior as rules do to the users.
It's usual seeing stuck-up, arrogant and selfish Staff members that they think they're perfect and everthing they say it's ok, when sometimes it's not.A term for their behavior should kick their butt and calm them down.

It's not a good idea keep this kind of people as Staff, and they should be fired, though.

There's not much information being specific with a ban, but's an interesting thread to talking about.
However, this is my opinion about a ban situation.
I hope this helps.

http://P.S: While is appreciated to mentioning that blaming way would be ended, keep that discussion up says something else.
I don't want this thread being trashed, it's quite interesting.

It's happened to both of us in the same place.
They have also been very rude to other members.
