PostSubject: Overly large or insanely tiny objects   Thu Jul 17, 2014 4:07 am

Hey there!

So, I've come across a bit of a bump in the road.

Only two maps, of which I'm aware of, have had their objects change from their original set size to be overly large or very tiny.

These two maps are GreatFalls and The Asylum

The objects that are being affected are:
GreatFalls - Foliage (Trees, Ferns)
The Asylum - Cave object (Covering as a sort of "rooftop" across the dens)

I've tried changing the sizes manually from their terrain files, but nothing worked. They either went even smaller or bigger.

I'm honestly not sure what the problem is, and I've had it for a while.

Does anyone know the issue? Have you dealt with this before?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Which rendering system are you running the game under?
Do you have the paged geometry on?

Both those maps were built with the rendering system on Direct3D9 with the paged geometry turned OFF.

Other than those aspects, I don't know what else could cause this effect.

I had been running it on OpenGL with paged geometry OFF.

When we tried it to your recommended settings however, they returned to their original sizes.

However it still bugs me, not knowing the cause. I've hopped onto other IT server before with these two maps and they worked fine with the other engine...

It's really a head-scratcher.

Nonetheless, although it makes my butt look big is not the same engine I'm used to, I'll live until we see what the problem is. c:

Thanks Hamilton.

Yeah, we figured that much out with some help of IL's developer. Haha

Put the scale at 1.9, it's a decent size, but as soon as you put it to 2, it just completely grows to a towering tree.

Try setting the biggest "tree" first, so like this:
Code:
[den.mesh]

I had the same issue on Dragon's Den. I eventually resized the trees.
Watch out that you do not have multiple versions of the same meshes inside your maps.
I have come across several maps where items have been used but the meshes have been resized or altered and thus affecting other maps. When editing items for a map you should always rename the meshes. For example if I wanted to change a rock for a map called Lost Island I would call the rock LIrock.mesh or LostIslandRock.mesh. That's if I can not just put it in the world file with a new material file.

Thanks you two,

Will try what you suggested and edit this post when I get to trying them out.

Much appreciated!

This is how I tried to explain it to Lazyzim:
checked the code of the Paged Geometry and it defaulted to a maxscale of 2. So you had to raise it.
But the scale in paged geometry is just 1 byte (0-255), so it was (float-minScale)/maxScale, that gave a number between 0 and 1 compared to the maxScale. So if the maxScale changes suddenly (say, the last line of the file), then all the previous maxScaled items go super large to the new maxScale

so if you got these meshes with the following scales:
2
3
3
2
7
10
20
10
Then that 1 byte value it uses for the scale will be:
255 (2)
255 (3)
255 (3)
127 (2)
255 (7)
255 (10)
255 (20)
127 (10)

but if you got the following instead:
20
2
3
3
2
7
10
10
Then it'll become:
255 (20)
25 (2)
38 (3)
38 (3)
25 (2)
89 (7)
127 (10)
127 (10)

the code thinks like this in a sense:
I pour 1 Liter water into a 1L bottle. I got 1L!
I pour that 1L water into a 2L bottle. I got 2L!
