MagixNetworkDefines.h has:

This limit can be increased a tiny bit since OwnerToken is defined as:

typedef unsigned char OwnerToken;
a unsigned char is from 0 to 255

Attempting to set MAX_CLIENTS higher than 255 will cause server corruption

You should note that 255 is a absolute maximum atm. The 255 are shared between all running game servers connect to one main server (account, characters server, logins, (call it what you want Razz))

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT NOTE:

#define TOKEN_NULL 254

Character Token 254 is reserved, so this number needs to be changed if one wishes a massive server.
